Commission: Concept Design
Opening in 2018, the 360 Mall Complex is unique! In addition to providing a five star Hyatt Hotel and high-end retail, this extension to an existing Kuwaiti shopping mall also includes; and indoor multipurpose events arena, a tennis centre with indoor and outdoor courts, a 1,500-seat competition tennis stadium, and offices for the Kuwait Tennis Federation.
The Arena is an integral part of the shopping mall and hotel. With 5,000 spectator seats and fifteen luxury skyboxes, it is designed to serve the activities in the Mall, such as product launches, function as an extension to the Hyatt Hotel ballroom, and operate as a standalone multipurpose arena.
Maximum flexibility of use is achieved by designing the entire spectator seating on telescopic platforms. This creates and intimate and exciting atmosphere for small floor events, like basketball, yet allows all of the seating to be retracted creating 3,500sm of open floor for banquets and exhibitions.
An important influence on the Arena design is the need to accommodate international tennis competitions with seating for 4,000 spectators. In its tennis configuration, the Arena directly connects with the Tennis Club and outdoor tennis courts.
There is a high degree of VIP facilities provided with skybox occupants entering the building through a private drop off and three-storey entrance atrium. The atrium is specifically design to accommodate the owner's prized Dale Chihuly glass sculpture. Private lifts take customers to the VIP level. Here a high level of service and catering is provided in the 500sm lounge/restaurant. This level also provides access to the fifteen skyboxes. Each box is designed to comfortably accommodate 12 people in luxurious surroundings with great views to the event floor below.
Throughout the Arena high quality finishes creates an environment more akin to a luxury theatre than a typical multipurpose arena.
The Tennis Centre is a significant part of the development and provides eight indoor tennis courts and eight outdoor tennis courts. In addition, a 1,500-seat outdoor tennis stadium is provided. The Centre is designed as a private members club, an elite athlete training centre, and an international competition venue. It can accommodate ATP 250 events and is designed to be easily expanded in order to host ATP 500 and Davis Cup competitions.
The outdoor areas are heavily landscaped to provide a welcoming environment, comfortable gathering space, and shade for the spectators and Club users. Both indoor and outdoor courts are acrylic surfaced and designed to international competition standards. Spectator seating is provided for every court and the spectator seating numbers can be increased, as needed.
Within the tennis Clubhouse one level is devoted to the Kuwaiti Tennis Federation offices. This is the new headquarters for the Federation. This level is directly connected to the VIP seating area in the tennis stadium. In addition to offices, classroom space is also provided for the Federation's educational programs.
The 360 Mall Extension marks a new level of integration of sports facilities into a larger mixed-use development. This approach assures daily use of the sports facilities and enhances the synergy between the different activities taking place in the development.
